Below is the latest imagery provided by two of the main instruments onboard the SDO spacecraft. The Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) instrument studies the outer layer of the Sun's atmosphere known as the Corona. Solar flares, coronal holes and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are observed here. The other main instrument, Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) looks outside of the Sun. Sunspots and the magnetic structure of active sunspot regions will be observed and studied. Imagery is typically updated every 15 minutes.
