Earth Facing Eruption and CME (UPDATED)
December 8, 2020 @ 23:30 UTC

C7 Erutpion (Dec 7) SDO/AIA

STORM WARNING: A geomagnetic storm, likely reaching minor (G1) to possibly strong (G3) storm levels should be expected beginning middle to late Wednesday (UTC) once the incoming plasma cloud reaches our planet. Aurora sky watchers from middle to high latitudes should be alert.

CME UPDATE: Updated coronagraph imagery is now trickling in following the eruption around AR 2790 on Monday. A full halo, Earth facing CME is clearly evident and this means our planets geomagnetic field should experience an impact as early as Wednesday.

2790 Erupts

An eruption around region 2790 on Monday (Dec 7) peaking at 16:32 UTC and measuring C7.4 was observed by the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). A coronal mass ejection (CME) was produced and will likely have an Earth directed component. Ths could be good news for aurora sky watchers by the middle of this week.

CME observed by STEREO Ahead.
